Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has joined an Israeli investment group in building a green-tech hotel at the Herzliya seaside resort.
DiCaprio, a prominent environmental activist, will be joining the Hagag Group as a partner in the hotel, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“As we seek to create a future that heads off the most severe effects of climate change, we need projects that push for new developments in environmental design… This project, designed by David Rockwell and which meets the gold standard of LEED, will serve as a model for environmentally friendly hotel development for the entire world,” DiCaprio said.
The hotel will be constructed according to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Planning) standards of the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
DiCaprio will assist in the marketing and branding of the project, Jewish Business News reported.
The luxury hotel includes 200 suites in two six-floor buildings with a lagoon set between the buildings and a private pool attached to some of the rooms.
“Mr. DiCaprio is a world-renowned environmental activist, and we welcome his decision to take part in the project, in order to ensure that the development of this project will be carried out while maintaining the principles of environmental protection,” the Hagag Group stated.
