Israel’s Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon said that Hamas is constantly plotting against Israel’s citizens. “It would be appropriate for the free world not to ignore this fact,” he said.
Following an intelligence and operational effort to locate those involved in the October 1 shooting attack at an Israeli vehicle near Itamar in which Rabbi Eitam Henkin and his wife Naama were murdered while traveling with their four young children, the ISA (Israel’s Security Agency), IDF and Israel Police have arrested members of the cell that perpetrated the attack. The detainees have been transferred for investigation by the ISA and have admitted their involvement in the murder of the Henkins.
The cell – affiliated with Hamas in Nablus – numbered five terrorists, each of which had a defined role. One terrorist checked the route. Three terrorists were in the attacking vehicle – a driver and two attackers. The cell commander was not in the vehicle. Several additional suspects have been arrested on suspicion of aiding the cell.
The investigation of the cell members is continuing.
Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon lauded the security forces for their rapid and efficient operation. He said that the cell had plans to carry out further attacks and that their capture was “an important achievement.”
Ya’alon added that Hamas, also operating out of Istanbul, Turkey, under the leadership of Salah al-Aruri, is constantly plotting against Israel’s citizens. “It would be appropriate for the free world not to ignore this fact,” he said. Israel has previously lodged complaints with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the US, with no results.
“The war against terror requires from us relentless determination, patience, wisdom and judgment. We operate in this way. We have no intention of allowing terror elements to disturb our lives. We are facing blood-thirsty terror organizations, and the war against them, like the reality on the ground, is complex and requires patience from us,” Ya’alon stated.
