Israeli leaders joined over 1-million-strong Paris rally in support of a “renewed struggle against the Islamic terrorism that is threatening all of humanity.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett joined an estimated 1.6 million people, including dozens of world leaders, who marched against terror in central Paris on Sunday. Combined marches across France saw over 3 million people in the largest-ever rally in French history .
The event was in response to a week of barbaric attacks by radical Islamic terrorists in France that claimed the lives of 17 innocent victims. Security forces are on the highest alert.
On Wednesday, terrorists murdered 10 famous French journalists and two policemen in an attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine headquarters. It was in essence an attack on freedom of the press, as the satirical publication was famous for publishing cartoons mocking Islam, among other targets.
On Thursday, a terrorist affirming his commitment to Islamic State (ISIS) murdered a police officer; on Friday, he slaughtered four Jews in an anti-Semitic attack at a kosher supermarket.
On Sunday, ahead of the demonstration, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls declared:
We are all Charlie, we are all police, we are all Jews of France.”
Before departing from Ben-Gurion Airport, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated:
“I am going to Paris in order to participate in the rally, along with world leaders, for a renewed struggle against the Islamic terrorism that is threatening all of humanity, which I have been calling for years. This evening I will attend a special rally, along with French President Francois Hollande, with the Jewish community in France. I will say there that any Jew who wants to immigrate to Israel will be received here with open arms.”
