Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the IDF on Friday to implement a series of new security measures across Judea and Samaria following a wave of terror attacks over the past 24 hours, including the deadly shooting near Havat Gilad.
The measures were approved following consultations with members of the security cabinet and senior defense officials.
Among the steps ordered are the demolition of the home of the terrorist responsible for Friday morning’s attack near the Palestinian village of Tell, increased military operations in villages identified as terror hotspots, weapons seizures, and the revocation of Israeli work permits.
The government also ordered additional IDF forces deployed throughout Judea and Samaria, the establishment of additional roadblocks and separated traffic routes, and an acceleration of the authorization of existing Jewish agricultural farms and the establishment of new ones.
The announcement followed Friday’s attack near Havat Gilad, in which two Israelis were killed: Benayahu Malet, 32, a father of two and member of the community’s local security team, and Maj. Yuval Ezra, 27, of Herzliya, a battery commander in the Artillery Corps’ 411th Battalion.
According to the IDF, the terrorist stole the weapon of a security team member who responded to an attack on Israeli hikers and opened fire, killing Malet and Ezra and wounding several others. IDF troops eliminated the gunman immediately afterward and recovered the stolen weapon.
The attack came after two violent incidents in Samaria on Thursday. An Israeli was critically wounded after being stabbed while attempting to extinguish a fire allegedly set by Palestinians near a farm outside Elon Moreh. Hours later, another suspected stabbing near Ganim left a young Israeli lightly wounded.
Netanyahu and Katz expressed their condolences to Malet’s family, wished the wounded a full recovery, and voiced support for security forces and residents confronting the recent violence.
The two leaders also stressed that security forces must be allowed to operate “freely and with full force against terrorism,” urging civilians to avoid actions that could interfere with military operations or divert troops from their primary mission.
