Former and possibly future chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz “united and determinedly” against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Former and possibly future chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz made a quick visit to Israel this week. He met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Public Security, Strategic Affairs and Minister of Information Gilad Erdan to discuss security.
“I am very concerned about Iran’s statement to want to enrich more uranium,” Kurz told Austrian reporters following his meeting with Netanyahu in Jerusalem. “That is in clear contradiction to the Vienna Agreement.”
Kurz was referring to the Iran nuclear deal, reached in 2015, from which US President Donald Trump withdrew last year.

“This is something that we must not accept,” Kurz continued. “This is not only an issue for Israel, but also a security issue for us in Europe. We will act united and determinedly.”
Kurz showed his support for Israel by tweeting, “#Israel’s security is a top priority for us and it is vital that #Iran complies to all elements of the nuclear agreement.”
At the press briefing, Kurz also revealed that he and Netanyahu discussed the fight against Islamic terror.
“We shared satisfaction over the fact that the fight against ISIS was won, but we also agreed that its ideology still exists, and that there’s an ongoing need to be vigilant regarding new groups that can be formed in the region and could be a threat not only for Israel but also for Austria and Europe,” he said.
Netanyahu began their meeting by praising Kurz as a “tremendous friend of the State of Israel, a champion of fighting anti-Semitism, a great leader for Austria.”
During the visit, Erdan took Kurz on a tour of the Israeli police’s Yamam counter-terrorism special unit, reported Arutz 7.
“We thank you for having organized a large conference against anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism,” Erdan told Kurz, according to Arutz 7. “As the minister responsible for the war against BDS, I am convinced that you will continue the fight against the anti-Semitic boycott movement.”
Kurz served as chancellor of Austria from December 2017 to May 2019, when his government fell in a no-confidence vote. He is favored to win in new elections in September.
