With Islamic terror and anti-Semitism in Europe on the rise, Netanyahu calls Jews everywhere to “come home.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke Sunday night with Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt following the two terror attacks in Copenhagen on Saturday, with Thorning-Schmidt updating him on the details of the attacks.
Netanyahu commended the Danish authorities on their efforts following the double terror attacks and sent Israel’s condolences to the Danish people on the loss of two of its citizen in the attacks, one of whom was a Jew.
He noted that “Israel and Denmark share common values and must fight terrorism – that knows no borders – together.” He added that “countries that do not fight terrorism today will deal with much worse terrorism tomorrow.”
Thorning-Schmidt called on Danish Jews to stay in Denmark, stating that an “attack [on] the Jewish minority in Denmark is an attack on all of Denmark.” She lamented, “We are all deeply disturbed by the tragedy that unfolded in front of the Jewish Synagogue. The Jewish community is an important part of Denmark, and has our warm sympathy and strong support.”
Islamic Terror Expected to Continue
Thorning-Schmidt’s plea notwithstanding, Netanyahu believes that Jews from around the world should make their home in Israel. Speaking during the weekly cabinet meeting, he declared that “extremist Islamic terrorism has struck Europe again, this time in Denmark.”
“Jews have been murdered again on European soil only because they were Jews,” Netanyahu pointed out, warning that the “wave of terrorist attacks, including murderous anti-Semitic attacks, is expected to continue.”
Netanyahu said Jews deserve protection in every country, but “we say to Jews, to our brothers and sisters: Israel is your home. We are preparing and calling for the absorption of mass immigration from Europe. I would like to tell all European Jews and all Jews wherever they are: ‘Israel is the home of every Jew.'”
Netanyahu further announced that the Cabinet was presented with a $47 million (NIS 180 million) plan to encourage the absorption of immigrants from France, Belgium and Ukraine.
The government is preparing a special plan for the absorption of French Jews, who are suffering from a wave of Muslim-perpetrated anti-Semitic attacks, exemplified by the terror attack at the Hyper Caher market last month that left four Jews dead.
“We will submit additional plans later. To the Jews of Europe and to the Jews of the world I say that Israel is waiting for you with open arms,” Netanyahu concluded
In the meantime, several hundred Jewish tombs were vandalized in a French cemetery near the northeastern city of Strasbourg, the French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, announced.
Cazeneuve condemned the incident and said in a statement that police had opened an inquiry.
“Everything will be done to identify, arrest and judge the perpetrator or perpetrators of this ignominious act,” Cazeneuve told Reuters.
