Israel’s armed forces are ready to meet any threat coming from Iran and to pay the price of conflict, if necessary, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said at a special government meeting held Friday.
On Thursday, the Jewish state paused to commemorate Independence Day.
“We are hearing the threats coming from Iran. The IDF’s soldiers and the security forces are prepared for any development,” Netanyahu said. “We will fight whoever tries to harm us, will not be deterred by the price, and we will make those who wish for our destruction pay. The IDF is prepared for the mission and the people will prevail.
“We stand tall in the face of those who threaten to destroy us. We are confident in our ability to defend ourselves on our own – that is the essence of our control of our own destiny, the essence of independence. We are joined today by veteran warriors from the underground, whose bravery stands as an example to us all,” the prime minister added.
The special meeting was held in Independence Hall in Tel Aviv, the site of the announcement of the establishment of the State of Israel by Israel’s first prime minister David Ben Gurion 70 years ago.
