From 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday night, the Empire State Building in Midtown Manhattan was lit blue and white in support of the State of Israel. The skyscraper is one of the world’s tallest.

“New York City has the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, and we stand side by side with Israel every day,” wrote New York City Mayor Eric Adams, “but we do so with extra resolve tonight.” (His post contained a photo that appeared to show City Hall lit blue and white.)

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul also shared images of buildings lit in blue and white.

“The people of Israel are facing violent terrorist attacks and civilian kidnappings,” she wrote. “I condemn plans to rally in Times Square tomorrow in support of the perpetrators of these horrific actions. The planned rally is abhorrent and morally repugnant.”
