After undergoing training in Israel, Palestinian doctors are now able to save Palestinians’ lives and improve their health.

Palestinian doctors have recently undergone a special ultrasound course at Israel’s Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva.

In order to improve the quality of treatment in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian doctors underwent special training, which experts say gives doctors the ability to save lives.

The course was also an opportunity to strengthen the medical cooperation in the region, the IDF’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which organized the course, said.

The course dealt with the use of ultrasound in cases of patients under anesthesia and with unstable circulatory systems.

The conference presented an innovative treatment, through which patients who cannot be fully anesthetized, due to complex health problems, are able to receive pain treatment by injection to the painful area by using ultrasound to guide the injection. This injection must be exact in order to not damage other areas of the body, which due to the patient’s complex health problems, could be fatal.

The course was attended by 31 Palestinian doctors from Judea and Samaria and an additional two doctors from the Gaza Strip.

“These are advanced methods for treating unstable patients or trauma patients that can help save lives immediately,” said Dalia Bassa, the IDF’s Civil Administration’s Health Coordinator. “These treatments are important and help to improve the emergency situation of patients suffering from severe trauma.”

“The importance of the course is to give the Palestinian doctors new tools so that they can help patients in the field of pain and trauma through new technologies that are constantly developing. We are happy to give over this information to Palestinian doctors” said Bassa.

Israel regularly offers its medical services, know-how and expertise to Palestinian care providers and patients, in many cases free of charge.

Most recently, a new branch of St. John’s Eye Hospital was opened in Hamas-controlled Gaza and corneal transplant surgeries are now being performed in the Gaza Strip by Israeli-trained Palestinian doctors.
