A Palestinian man in his 20s is in police custody after torching a number of cars in a Jewish neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem on Monday morning.
Officers were called to the Neve Yaakov neighborhood amid reports of a man damaging cars in the residential area.
As police arrived, one of the vehicles set on fire by the suspect exploded.
The Palestinian did not respond to requests by the officers to remove his coat and instead began muttering “Allah Akbar” and other Koranic verses. One of the officers fired a single bullet at the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital.
Police found 10 vehicles that were damaged.
Police are treating the incident as “nationalistically motivated.”
In January, a Palestinian terrorist killed seven people and injured another three in Neve Yaakov when he opened fire on people passing by a synagogue.
