Meeting with the new US national intelligence director, Israel’s head of state underscored the Iranian threat to the region while expressing appreciation for America’s support for Israel.
Accompanied by Mossad director Yossi Cohen, President Reuven Rivlin on Sunday met at his residence with US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who was making his first visit to Israel in his new capacity.
According to a statement released by Rivlin’s office, the meeting addressed a range of issues such as the strengthening of US-Israel security cooperation, developments in the region and the global threat of terrorism.
Rivlin underscored Israel’s concern over Iran’s “negative influence” on the stability in the Middle East, adding his great appreciation for the US’ “unwavering support for the security of the State of Israel.”
Israel remains concerned about Iran’s military buildup in southern Syria, on Israel’s northern border, a development which enables the Islamic Republic to threaten the Jewish state directly.
