The Children’s Centers offer children who have very little at home, to come daily and get everything they need to break out of poverty – to learn, to grow and to build their self-esteem.
Not many people realize that 1 in 3 children in Israel live under the poverty line. That’s almost a million children. It sounds outrageous. And it is.
Even though it’s a small portion – only 200 children – every child is a life that is worth saving. Two hundred children in Tzfat, one of Israel’s poorest cities, are now going to have the opportunity of a lifetime, to be fed and cared for daily.
A new purpose-built Children’s Center is being launched by non-profit organization Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. They have been running a Children’s Center in Jerusalem for many years and have seen the success, and know the model works in helping these children break out of the unfortunate circumstances they were born into.
Zahava, one of the girls who had virtually grown up in Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s Children’s Center in Jerusalem, came to the organization when she received her first paycheck, in order to give back to the organization that had given her so much. “You saved my life,” Zahava told the staff emotionally.
The Children’s Centers offer children who have very little at home, to come daily and get everything they need to break out of poverty – to learn, to grow and to build their self-esteem. Most importantly, they get a hot meal every day, something many of them would not otherwise have.
Each child that walks through the doors receives a warm caring ‘home away from home’. This includes: help with homework, music and art therapy, access to computers and an audio room, gymboree, library and so much more.
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s Center is for children ages 3-12 and will be open from 1:00-5:00 p.m., critical after-school hours that help keep children off the streets and allow their parents to work a full day.
Tzfat’s former Mayor, Ilan Shochat, inspired by the work of Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, donated the land and infrastructure for the building of the Children’s Center. The beautiful four-story complex, overlooking the scenic hills of Meron, will enable Yad Ezra V’Shulamit to provide a multitude of much-needed services for hundreds of the city’s impoverished children.
An Unmatched Matching Opportunity
Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is now looking to find sponsorship for each of the 200 children in order to welcome them into the new Children’s Center. The building is ready to go, but $208 per month is needed to sponsor all the meals, staff and activities.
For December only, every donation made will be doubled by a few generous anonymous donors. That means it’s the perfect time to sponsor a child, making your donation go double the distance.
Your gift will help these children come in from the cold to enjoy a hot meal in a warm, nurturing environment, and hopefully break the cycle of poverty in Israel.
