U.S. President Obama apparently misquoted scripture while defending illegal immigration. Is this “a new level of dishonest narcissism,” as one news outlet claimed?
U.S. President Barack Obama has reportedly misquoted the bible, basically making up verses in the New Testament.
While defending his immigration policy during a speech in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, Obama stated: “The good book says, don’t throw stones in glass houses, or make sure we’re looking at the log in our eye before we are pointing out the mote in other folks’ eyes.”
The Daily Caller insists that Obama completely made up these verses, writing that “this is a new level of dishonest narcissism,” whereas the Washington Post tried to mitigate the situation by claiming that these sentiments are expressed in the bible, quoting various translations to try and prove that the president’s remarks were in fact in line with scripture.
However, the Washington Post concedes that the expression about throwing stones at glass houses is a proverb of unknown origin that has been used in various forms for centuries.
Responding to the misquote, Breitbart News White House Correspondent Charlie Spiering tweeted: “Pretty sure the Bible has nothing about throwing stones in glass houses. But please correct me if I’m wrong.”
Obama also said in the same speech that Joseph and Mary were illegal immigrants, The Week reports.
“It’s worth considering the Good Book when you’re thinking about immigration. This Christmas season there’s a whole story about a young soon-to-be-mother and her husband of modest means looking for a place to house themselves for the night, and there’s no room at the inn,” Obama said.
The statement was made in order to justify his executive actions to legalize approximately five million aliens in the U.S.
Mideast Policy Based on Ignorance?
Michael Bullet, who describes himself as a conservative republican, tweeted: “Hey, Obama! Mary and Joseph weren’t illegal aliens that jumped the border and expected free benefits they didn’t earn or deserve.”
While Obama misquotes scripture in order to defend his policies, he continues to pressure Israel not to allow construction in Jerusalem for Jewish homes. Could it be that he has not read the Bible and does not know that Jerusalem is the ancient capital of the Jewish People?
