Syrian and Iraqi news outlets are blaming Israel for the most recent strike on Iranian-backed factions.

An Iraqi military base that belongs to an Iranian proxy militia was attacked, the Lebanese television station al-Mayadeen recently reported.
“An unidentified aircraft targeted the area surrounding a military base next to the al-Murssinat [military] airport in the western part of the al-Anbar province,” the report said.
The military base was occupied by an Iranian-backed force called the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). No casualties were reported.
This is the third attack on the Iranian-backed militia in a week. The second attack came this past Thursday when an unknown aircraft attacked PMF posts in the Boukamal region of eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border. According to local Arabic media reports, five people were killed and nine were injured in that attack.
Two days earlier an air raid targeted a training camp and an ammunition storehouse in the same area. According to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ten Iranian-backed militiamen were killed in the attack. On September 9th, the Boukamal region was struck hard when eighteen Iranian-backed fighters and eight ammunition storehouses were brought down in an air raid.
Israel remains the prime suspect for the strikes according to both the Syrian and Iraqi news media.
Although Israel did not officially claim responsibility for the attacks, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at culpability when speaking to reporters last month at a Holocaust remembrance ceremony in Kiev, Ukraine.
“The Iranians continue to threaten Israel with annihilation and are building military bases across the Middle East intended to carry out that goal,” he said. “We will act, and currently are acting against them, wherever it is necessary.”
