Israeli Ambassador Michael Lotem became the country's first ambassador to Somaliland, presenting his credentials to President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi in a historic ceremony that marks the first step in a budding relationship.

The move follows Israel’s decision in December 2025 to formally recognize Somaliland as an independent state, becoming the first UN member state to do so.
