Other quotes by Al-Habbash, who said the conflict with Israel is one of good vs. evil, include calling Israel “Satan’s project” and a “Culture of Satan.”

A top aide to Palestinian Authority (PA) leader Mahmoud Abbas says that the conflict with Israel is a battle “between good and evil.”

Mahmoud Al-Habbash is Abbas’ adviser on religious and Islamic affairs and a PA supreme judge on Shari’ah Islamic law, says Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), an Israeli research institute that studies Palestinian society. He speaks of an Israeli plot” regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, where Islam’s third holiest shrine is located but which is also the location of the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest shrine.

When Israel captured the Temple Mount in the 1967 war, it nevertheless allowed for an Islamic body to maintain religious control of the site. To this day, the entry of Jews is severely restricted and Jewish prayer is forbidden.

However, as far as Al-Habbash is concerned, Jewish history is a myth.

He says that Muslims are waging “a battle between facts and myth, between truth and falsehood, between justice and injustice, between integrity and distortion, between tolerance and fanaticism,” adds PMW.

His comments might be considered perplexing considering that Israel has shown tolerance toward other religions to practice their faith as opposed to Islamic officials who refuse to acknowledge the right of Jews to ascend the Temple Mount.

Other quotes by Al-Habbash as cited by PMW include calling Israel “Satan’s project” and a “Culture of Satan.”

“In 2018, Al-Habbash explained to viewers on official PA TV that Islam’s religious war to destroy Israel had started,” says the Israeli research institute.
