Prince Charles will pay his first official visit to Israel for a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz at Yad Vashem.

The Prince of Wales’s office confirmed Wednesday that he would attend the World Holocaust Forum at the invitation of Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on January 23.
The represents Prince Charles’ first official state visit to Israel, although he had attended the funerals of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin and former president Shimon Peres.
In addition to the official communique sent by Clarence House Wednesday morning, confirming the Prince’s attendance, in the evening Prince Charles sent an additional, personal letter to President Reuven Rivlin, thanking him for the opportunity to participate and to express his solemn respects on behalf of the people of the United Kingdom.
The prince made special mention of the work undertaken by Yad Vashem and its ongoing work to ensure that humanity never forgets the horrors inflicted on the Jewish people during the most awful period in human history.
Besides the British royal, Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron and the presidents of Germany, Italy and Austria will be attending the event titled “Remembering the Holocaust, Fighting Antisemitism.”
His wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will attend a service at Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland on January 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
According to the royal statement, the Price will “undertake a number of engagements on behalf of the British Government.”
Prince Charles also plans to meet with the head of the Palestinian Authority (PA) Mahmoud Abbas.
Last year was the first time a member of the British Royal Family made an official visit to Israel, when Prince William made his historic trip to the Jewish state.
