Hitler played a cat-and mouse-game with Chamberlain, demanding more and more – and getting it. This is exactly what Iran is doing with the feckless Kerry.
In a stunning display of appeasement that would put former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain to shame, US Secretary of State John Kerry chaired a four-hour United Nations Security Council meeting on the Islamic State (IS or ISIS) crisis, where Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, tied Iran’s support for fighting the notorious terrorist organization with “an end to the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.”
Kerry said nothing in response.
(Chamberlain, who served as British prime minister in 1937-1940, is most remembered for his failed appeasement policy towards Nazi Germany before the Second World War.)
Destroying IS would require Israel leaving “Palestine,” Araghchi declared on Friday.
“Speaking before the United Nations Security Council at a meeting on the crisis in Iraq, Araghchi said Israel’s actions in Gaza can ‘only be called genocide,’ and that such actions were a rallying cry for Islamic State,” The Jerusalem Post reported.
The deaths of the civilians in Gaza, referred to as a genocide by the Iranian foreign minister, can be laid squarely at the door of Hamas, whose penchant for using dead babies in their PR war against Israel is well documented by now. Using their proxy army Hamas to set Israel up for a PR disaster was a brilliant move on the part of the Iranian thugocracy as they look for leverage during negotiations with the West in order to get their nukes.
If we recall the meetings that Chamberlain had with Hitler in Munich, the parallels with Kerry and Iran are striking. Hitler played a cat-and mouse-game with Chamberlain, demanding more and more – and getting it. This is exactly what Iran is doing with the feckless Kerry. Iran now has the leverage it so desired in the negotiations almost a year ago with the Six Global Powers; in exchange for fighting IS, they demand the destruction of the Jewish state.
Does Kerry Think Iran Will Stop with Israel?
Hitler demanded Czechoslovakia and Iran demands Israel. The question is: Will Iran get what it wants? Judging by Kerry’s silence in response to the outrageous demand, one would guess that the answer is yes.
Israel, the “little Satan,” as Iran calls it, has been in Iran’s crosshairs for years, and now, with a weak and ineffectual US leadership, it looks like Iran is making progress. Does Kerry think that Iran will stop with Israel – just as Chamberlain believed that Hitler would be appeased by getting Czechoslovakia?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows his history and seems to have a different opinion. He was quoted in Israel Hayom as saying, at a recent conference at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem:
“I know for a certainty what [former Israeli Prime Minister] Menachem Begin would say about something I have been hearing more and more about in recent days from esteemed commentators in the West.
“They are saying that the major powers need to go easy on Iran’s nuclear program so that Iran will fight ISIS,” the Israeli leader continued. “[Iran] is fighting ISIS for its own interests. They are fighting over who will be the ruler of the Islamist world that they want to set over the entire world. It is as if [Syrian President Bashar] Assad would say, ‘Go easy on my chemical weapons. Give me back my chemical weapons so that I can fight ISIS.’ Both are absurd.
“Menachem Begin would reject this outright and so do I,” Netanyahu declared. “Iran must not be allowed to become a nuclear threshold state.”
