The Jewish holiday of Sukkot, the ‘season of joy’, when the People of Israel dwell outside in temporary huts known as ‘sukkahs’ is almost upon us.
One of the most fun aspects of the holiday of Sukkot is ‘sukkah hopping’. Once Sukkot begins, especially in Jewish communities, there are sukkahs everywhere, in yards, driveways, parking lots, balconies, the streets are filled with them! Since receiving guests over Sukkot is such an important part of the holiday, many Jewish families take a vacation and spend their free time hanging out in their own sukkah, and ‘hopping’ from sukkah to sukkah to visit their friends.
The best place to go sukkah hopping is in the Holy City of Jerusalem. In this video called ‘Sukkah Shop and Hop’, you will go on a sukkah hopping adventure with Jewish explorer Yaakov Lehman as your guide. You will not only get to see the sights and hear the sounds of this very sensory holiday but will also meet gifted Rabbis from Jerusalem, who give over spiritual teachings about the inner wisdom of Sukkot and how to connect to the ‘season of joy’.
