Human rights lawyer Brooke Goldstein asks: Will Europe “go down a very dark path, one it has gone down before?”
Brooke Goldstein, executive director of The Lawfare Project, explains why Jewish and Muslim groups are angry that Europe’s top court ruled last week in support of Belgium’s ban on slaughtering animals that have not been stunned.
The ruling, which effectively outlaws kosher and halal religious practice, is “absolutely absurd” and a “basic civil rights issue,” Goldstein says, noting the hypocrisy evident by the cruel practices against animals that continue to be tolerated in Europe.
“We all know what happened last time Europe banned the kosher slaughter of animals. They were quick to slaughter human beings. This is not an exaggeration.”
