This past weekend marked 39 years since the historic visit by then-Egyptian President Anwar Sadat to Jerusalem on November 20, 1977.

Sadat responded to then-Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin’s invitation because he understood that the key to peace is found in mutual recognition and direct dialogue.

Sadat went to Jerusalem to address the Israeli people at the Knesset and to negotiate with their leaders without preconditions. The result was an end to 30 years of war.
