Despite Israel’s legitimate claims to eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, based on overwhelming historical and archaeological evidence, the United Nations Security Council passed an anti-Israel resolution in December saying Jewish communities in these areas have no legal validity.
To understand the absurdity of the resolution, it’s important to realize that the ancient Mount of Olives cemetery, for example, located in eastern Jerusalem, is the oldest and most revered Jewish cemetery in the world. The Temple Mount – Judaism’s holiest site – and the Western Wall are also in eastern Jerusalem, which the resolution refers to as “occupied Palestinian territory.”
