With over 640,000 signatures from around the world, the Jerusalem Declaration is a historic initiative presented to US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and is a global statement of support for a united Jerusalem as both the eternal capital of the Jewish People and the undivided capital of the State of Israel.

Last May, a few days before Yom Yerushalayim – Jerusalem Day, when Israelis and Jews around the world celebrated the 50th anniversary of the reunification of the Israeli capital – United with Israel (UWI) visited Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, presenting him with a book of over half a million signatures of people from 168 countries demanding that Jerusalem remain united as the eternal capital of the Jewish state.

In a unique project, UWI had accumulated over 500,000 signatures to the statement, “I declare that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish People and support all efforts to maintain and strengthen a united Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the State of Israel.”

The number of signatories has now reached 640,000 and continues to grow.

During the meeting, Barkat presented United with Israel with a personal note of appreciation for “helping Jerusalem lovers and supporters come together and show their commitment to the eternal, united and undivided capital of Israel, the heart and soul of the Jewish people.”

Following their meeting with the mayor, United with Israel members hung a massive banner bearing the actual names of the Jerusalem Declaration’s half a million supporters on the outer walls of Jerusalem and in several high-traffic locations throughout the Old City.

Earlier this week, just two days ahead of President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and plans to relocate its embassy, Barkat, standing in front of the White House, made a heartfelt plea to the American leader to recognize the city as the capital of Israel and move the US embassy there.
