Just a mile or so from Lebanon in Israeli territory awaits a breathtaking stretch of beach called Achziv, whose history dates back to the tribe of Asher in the Bible.

Among the many locations in modern-days Israel that are mentioned in the Bible is Achziv, which appears in connection to the tribe of Asher and is also mentioned in the Book of Judges.

Throughout the ages, this strip of land, which includes a gorgeous beach sitting atop a windswept hill, has hosted invaders from Europe and the Arab world, with its most recent inhabitant an eccentric Israeli artist who sought to create a tiny sovereign nation.
