Meet Yerucham, a volunteer food delivery driver for over 20 years and a hero who goes beyond his disabilities to give to others.

This is the story of a hero. Not simply because he is a volunteer. Not simply because he delivers food to Israel’s needy. Not simply because he has been doing this for the last 20 years. Not simply because he has been disabled throughout all those years of volunteering.

He is a hero because he wants to give to others from the bottom of his heart and he always does it with a smile.

Meet Yerucham, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit’s volunteer food delivery driver for over two decades.

Some people aren’t dealt the best cards in life and yet they seem to overcome obstacle after obstacle, living their lives with joy and as a shining light and example to others, spreading happiness to everyone they meet. That is Yerucham.

After undergoing years of dialysis, he finally received a kidney transplant.

During one day of dialysis, he left the hospital during a break, went to the Yad Ezra V’Shulamit warehouse to pick up food for the poor, returned to the hospital to finish his treatment, and then continued on to deliver food to those who were relying on him.

He was then in a serious car accident and sustained untold injuries, eventually being forced to use a wheelchair. Yet even that didn’t get him down or stop him from volunteering as a driver. In a modified van, he kept on delivering food to the needy.

Amazingly, he has outlived many of the doctors who had given him a dire prognosis of only a few years’ life expectancy. He defies his physical limitations and keeps on living life to the fullest.

Yerucham really cares for and worries about each family to whom he delivers, rain or shine, making sure they get everything they need. Notwithstanding his own difficulties, he always greets everyone with a huge smile, especially the poor families to whom he brings food.

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is extremely proud of and indebted to Yerucham for his unwavering service. He is a real hero in our midst and an example of a true volunteering heart.

Thank you Yerucham from the team at Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, our donors, and the underprivileged families of Israel who are so grateful for your service.
