An innovative Israeli teacher developed a new way to get immigrants to “think in Hebrew” via street art and other inventive uses of the national language.
In 2011, Israeli Hebrew teacher Guy Sharett was just an average teacher in an “ulpan,” a language school that introduces new immigrants to Israel’s national language in the typical classroom setting.
Sharett realized that although his students graduated with a basic command of the language, Israeli culture and thought processes still escaped them and they weren’t really feeling “Israeli.”
Today he reaches even the most challenged students by bringing Israeli society to life using Tel Aviv street art, street signs and advertisements, creating captivating lessons.
