A fire broke out at the Yad Ezra V’Shulamit warehouse in Jerusalem’s Givat Shaul neighborhood, causing immense damage.
Located at the central wholesale distribution market for all produce in Jerusalem, the fire destroyed several caravans, equipment, fork lifts, hundreds of food storage bins, and food that was to be supposed to be given to the poor.
The loss is devastating for Yad Ezra V’Shulamit and the thousands of poor families who receive weekly food packages. The Jerusalem warehouse is the main food storage location for weekly distribution of 12,000 food baskets.
“This is a tremendous loss for our organization and for all the poor people we help each week. We need help to rebuild”, said founder Aryeh Lurie.
Rescue teams put out the huge fires only after a lot of fire damage was incurred by caravans, equipment and food. Damage is estimated at over 300,000 shekels ($82,000).
“We turn to our friends in Israel and abroad to help us thru this crisis. Please give what you can so we can get back to doing what we do best – feeding those that are hungry! Help us get food to those who need it most in Israel,” stated Aryeh Lurie.
