Hezbollah, literally “Party of Allah,” is a Shi’a Islamist terror group and political party based in Lebanon with a military wing named the “Jihad Council.”
Hezbollah was conceived by Muslim clerics in the early 1980s and funded by Iran with the main goal of waging war against Israel as Iran’s proxy.
Followers of Ayatollah Khomeini took the lead role in its formation, and Iranian Revolutionary Guards traveled to Lebanon to train the initial members of the terror group.
