Holocaust Remembrance Day is a solemn time for Israelis, as they mourn the loss of 6 million Jews martyred in the Holocaust.
Yom HaShoah, Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, begins on the Hebrew date of the 27th of Nisan at nightfall and ends the following day at sunset.
This day is taken very seriously by Israelis: flags are flown at half mast, stores close early, special memorial services are held, and at 10 am a two-minute air raid siren wails as the entire country grinds to a halt to honor those who were lost.
We must never forget.
