A resident of Israel, a desert country, is hoping to make it to a dogsledding competition near the North Pole.

Erik Claster, a resident of Efrat in the Gush Etzion region of Judea, is trying to become the first Israeli ever to participate in a polar dogsledding competition, crossing nearly 200 miles of Arctic wilderness from Norway to Sweden.

Claster, 36, is a husband, father of five and former IDF soldier who served in the elite Givati combat unit. He made Aliyah to Israel in 1999.

He hopes to get enough votes to make the competition.

It may seem ridiculous and improbable, he concedes, but as the saying goes, in order to be a realist in Israel, one must believe in miracles.
