During a panel discussion this week on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Israeli commentator and international spokesperson for the Hebron Jewish community Yishai Fleischer pushed back against the notion that Israel is “occupying” Gaza.
Gaza, he said, is land that belonged to the Jews “from the get-go” – it “is not Palestinian” and “has never been Palestinian.”
“That’s a recently-created narrative,” he added, noting that Israel “liberated” Gaza from Egyptian control during the Six Day War.
Fleisher said the “occupation” narrative is simply a cover for those want to see Israel destroyed. “Ask them when the ‘occupation’ began – they’ll tell you 1948 [the year of the founding of the modern state of Israel] or 1917 [the year of the Balfour Declaration]. They want to see the end of Israel as a Jewish state altogether – that’s what this is about.”
