Israelis lit bonfires on Saturday night in honor of Lab B’Omer to commemorate the passing of Torah sage Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.

This year, celebrations at Mt. Meron, Shimon Bar Yochai’s grave, were cancelled given security threats from Hezbollah in the north.

Jews light bonfires in honor of the righteous sage, to celebrate the day he revealed the secrets of kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) in his holy book known as the “Zohar.”

Here is a video of the celebrations that took place at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
