Sydney Jewish community member Ofir Birenbaum lamented being detained by police for allegedly “breaching the peace” when he unfurled an Israeli flag in front of anti-Israel activists demonstrating in front a synagogue.
The demonstration involved around 70 activists outside Sydney’s Great Synagogue on Wednesday night, during an event at the synagogue held by the Israel Institute of Technology, Technion.
Birenbaum said he was “Peaceful, yet was accused of breaching the peace.” He noted that while he “didn’t say anything,” the demonstrators shouted at him, “‘Disgusting,’ ‘Shame on you,’ the typical cesspool phrases like ‘genocide,”murder,”blood on your hands.'”
“Just another Wednesday for us Jews – I mean ‘Zionists,'” he added.
