Over a year after Israeli recalled its ambassador to New Zealand over that country’s sponsorship of an anti-Israel U.N. resolution, the Maaori people welcome the ambassador back with an ancient ceremony.
At the end of the Obama administration, the United Nations passed an anti-Israel resolution backed by several countries including New Zealand.
In response, Israel recalled its ambassador in protest.
Over a year later, the ambassador returned, and in a show of support for Israel, the Maaori people of New Zealand welcomed him back with an ancient ceremony called the “Powhiri.”
