The prime minister visited one of Judaism’s holiest sites, a few days after he issued a pledge to extend Israeli sovereignty over the resting place of the Jewish People’s patriarchs and matriarchs.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prayed at the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, which is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Jews. This site houses the graves of the biblical figures Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah and remains one of Judaism’s most powerful places of prayer.
Netanyahu on Thursday vowed to extend Israeli sovereignty over the Tomb of the Patriarchs and the surrounding Jewish community of Hebron, reported The Jerusalem Post. The prime minister also said he would authorize an elevator project to make the ancient tomb complex accessible to those with disabilities.
“The community welcomes the announcement that the Cave of Machpela, location of the tombs of the Biblical founding fathers and mothers, will be included in the amended sovereignty map as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Deal of the Century,” said an official City of Hebron statement.
