Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was whisked off stage Tuesday evening by security guards after sirens warning of possible rocket fire interrupted an election rally.
The rocket siren wailed in the middle of Netanyahu’s address in the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, after which the prime minister, who appeared unfazed, urged the audience to “quietly leave the area.”
A rocket was also fired at the nearby coastal city of Ashkelon. The Israeli military said that both projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.
