Dozens of Hungarians who lost touch with their Jewish roots due to the Holocaust and communism are returning to the faith as the community is being rebuilt.
Budapest’s historic Obuda synagogue had not functioned for many decades, due to the Holocaust followed by the anti-religious communist regime, Arutz-7 reports.
The building has recently been restored and, after taken over for many years by a scientific organization, is now being used for its original purpose. A few dozen people have begun attending, returning to their roots.
As the synagogue’s rabbi explains, quoting from the prophet Ezekiel, they are taking the “dry bones – whether of buildings or people who lost their affiliation to Judaism – and bring them back to life!
