US Ambassador David Friedman visits Sderot, a front-line community bordering Gaza which has suffered from thousands of rocket attacks since Israel ceded control of Gaza to Palestinian leaders.

Jewish patriarchs Avraham and Yitzhak both lived in the Gerar area of Gaza and by the fourth century Gaza was the primary Jewish port of Israel for international trade and commerce.

Forced to leave Gaza after murderous riots in 1929, Jews returned after the Six-Day War in 1967 but, under heavy international pressure, Israel uprooted over 8,000 Israeli citizens from all 21 Jewish communities in Gaza in 2005, leading to a sharp uptick in Hamas-initiated rocket attacks from the area.

Watch as US Ambassador David Friedman visits Sderot, a front-line community bordering Gaza which has suffered terribly as over 10,000 Palestinian rockets have been fired upon Sderot and the western Negev, killing dozens and wounding over 700 civilians, traumatizing thousands, and destroying countless homes and properties.

Notwithstanding the losses, Friedman encourages the local Jews to build their community while acknowledging their suffering as he stands next to a Hanukkah menorah constructed from fragments of rockets used to attack the community.
