In July 2021, Israel achieved a significant diplomatic win when it rejoined the African Union.
However, some countries including South Africa and Algeria did not support the move. Yesterday there was supposed to be a vote on whether to maintain Israel’s observer status. However, in the end the vote was postponed until next year’s assembly.
