According to the Democracy Index, Israel remains the only democracy in the Middle East, where freedom is guaranteed under the law to all, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or national origin.

One of the key ingredients in Israel’s democratic society is the the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, which is located in Jerusalem and makes up the legislative branch of the government, with the power to enact and repeal laws.
