Watch what happens when a famous musician meets a legendary Israeli leader.

In 1972, world-renowned singer/songwriter Ray Charles visited David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, during his 86th birthday celebration in the dining hall of Kibbutz Sde Boker.

Charles sang his famous song “Heaven help us all!” They shared a conversation for several hours.

“Even though I’m not Jewish, and even though I’m stingy with my bread, Israel is one of the few causes I feel good about supporting,” Ray Charles said in 1976.
