The Torah portion is “Vayeira” (Genesis 18:1–22:24) and repeatedly introduces us to angels.

The reading opens up with three angels who visit Abraham. One angel tells Sarah she will have a son, another heals Abraham from his circumcision and another is tasked with destroying the evil cities of Sodom and Amora.

We also have an angel who calls out to Abraham to abort the sacrifice of his beloved son. Angels are here, there and everywhere in this week’s Torah portion!

Rabbi Enkin explores the meaning of angels in Judaism. What are they? Why does G-d “need” them? Why so many angels and what do they actually do?
