The Torah portion of “Shlach” (Numbers 13:1–15:41) is primarily about the spies who came back with a negative report about the Land of Israel.

It also includes the lesser-known episode of a sinner who was caught gathering wood on the Sabbath day.

The penalty for Sabbath desecration in Biblical times was death. And so it was, the wood gatherer was stoned.

In this webinar, Rabbi Enkin discusses this tragic episode and sheds light on why Sabbath desecration was treated so severely.

The class explores capital punishment in Jewish law and the State of Israel and is full of controversy, emotions, and suspense.
