A recent investigation by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has uncovered a coordinated effort by at least 30 Wikipedia editors to inject antisemitic and anti-Israel bias into the platform’s content, particularly concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
These editors have systematically downplayed Palestinian antisemitism and violence while amplifying criticism of Israel, thereby compromising Wikipedia’s commitment to neutrality and misleading countless readers worldwide.
My latest on @Wikipedia in @JewishJournal:
Wikipedia Editors Add “Gaza Genocide” to “List of Genocides” Article
Editor who “closed” the debate says that “we follow the scholarly sources.” https://t.co/XktvlGnD6i pic.twitter.com/E7twBEaD3V— Aaron Bandler (@bandlersbanter) November 6, 2024
The ADL’s findings reveal that these editors engaged in organized activities to manipulate Wikipedia’s content, including the removal of credible sources and the promotion of narratives sympathetic to Hamas.
Such actions not only violate Wikipedia’s policies but also contribute to the spread of misinformation and antisemitism.
Given Wikipedia’s extensive reach and influence, the dissemination of biased information poses a significant threat to public understanding and discourse.
It is imperative that we address this issue promptly to prevent the further spread of harmful misinformation.
Urge Congress to investigate and take action against antisemitic bias on Wikipedia.
