The City University of New York’s Graduate School of Public Health has invited Linda Sarsour to serve as the school’s commencement speaker next month. This is a disgrace. We must demand they rescind her invitation!
The City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health has stirred up a controversy with its decision to invite Sharia advocate Linda Sarsour to serve as the school’s commencement speaker next month.
New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind spoke out against the appointment, stating that Sarsour “is someone who associates with radical Islamists; supports them; shows support for them.”
Sarsour’s agenda includes delegitimizing the State of Israel, promoting and glorifying acts of terrorism.
Sarsour supports the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and does not acknowledge Israel’s right to exist.
As head of the Arab American Association of New York, Sarsour, one of the main organizers of the massive anti-Trump Women’s March, which took place after Trump’s inauguration, used that platform to attack the Jewish state. “Most of all, I am my Palestinian grandmother who lives in occupied territories’ wildest dream! Justice for all,” she stated at the event, rather than speaking out against honor killings and other forms of abuse against women in Muslim countries.
Several news and social media sites published pictures of Sarsour alongside Salah Sarsour, a member of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee and former Hamas operative who was jailed in Israel in the 1990s, taken at a charity event in Chicago.
She tweeted in 2015 that “Zionist trolls” were out to get her, and in 2012 that “nothing is creepier than Zionism.”
Jewish groups have expressed outrage and have called on the university and the state to rescind Sarsour’s invitation.
Is this the best that CUNY can offer as a role model for the future? CUNY should be ashamed. We must demand that CUNY rescind Sarsour’s invitation!
