Israel’s capital experienced another surge of violence as Arab rioters clashed with security forces and attacked Israeli targets in various locations in Jerusalem Wednesday night and Thursday. This outbreak of violence comes in the wake of a deadly attack by a Hamas terrorist, which claimed the life of Chaya Zissel Braum, a three-month-old baby.

Tens of Palestinian Arabs threw stones and burned tires in the neighborhood of Silwan near the home of the terrorist who had committed the attack.

Some 150 rioters threw stones at a gas station which has previously been the target of an Arab terror attack.

Several incidents of rock-throwing at Jerusalem’s light rail system were recorded over the course of the night. Train cars were damaged in both incidents, but no one was injured.

Terrorists attacked several buses in the capital. A few Israelis were lightly injured.

Attack on a Kindergarten

Masked Arab terrorists attacked a kindergarten at the Ma’ale Zeitim neighborhood, located on the Mount of Olives, with rocks. The attackers fled the scene and police are searching for them.

Later on, Arabs assaulted a Jewish school in the Old City. Luckily, the students left minutes before the attack occurred, and no one was injured.

‘Zero Tolerance’ for the Terrorists

A Jerusalem Police spokesman announced that its forces will continue its wide-ranging actions to eliminate any threat to Jerusalem’s residents. He stressed that police will show “zero tolerance”for any expression of violence.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held another consultation with Israel’s top security officials. Netanyahu sent the Braun family, his condolences, saying: “I send my condolences to the family of the pure baby, and wish the wounded a speedy recovery.”

Netanyahu’s reiterated his commitment to ensure Jerusalem as Israel’s unified capital, warning that any attempts to harm its residents would meet a powerful response. “We will restore peace and security to Jerusalem, “ he said.

Chief of Police Yohanan Danino commended the police forces for their actions during the terror attack last night. “The decisive and rapid response of the police officer that brought to the quick end of the attack is commendable. I expect all policemen to act similarly in these situations.”

Danino added that Jerusalem will receive as many forces as required to restore a sense of security to the city’s residents. “This is a national task, and Israel’s police will work with all the security forces to provide a solution to the rioters threat.”

Danino further ordered his legal department to seek more severe penalties, including financial sanctions against the rioters, who are often youth, and their families.
