Four Syrian army soldiers on Monday were killed and four others wounded in missile strikes attributed to Israel, according to Syrian state media.

“At around 02:20 a.m. on Monday, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial act of aggression from the direction of occupied Syrian Golan , targeting some sites in Damascus,” a source in Syrian military reportedly told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

“Our air defenses intercepted the missiles and shot down some of them, and the aggression resulted in the martyrdom of four army personnel and the injury of four others, in addition to causing some material damages,” the source added.

Israel has reportedly struck hundreds of targets in Syria in recent years in an effort to curb Iranian entrenchment in the country, though it rarely acknowledges these incidents.

Last week, The Alma Research and Education Center reported that Iran is working to seize control of an extensive network of Syrian military industry facilities, collectively known by their French acronym of CERS.

Israel Defense Forces Maj. (res.) Tal Beeri, head of research at the Alma Center, told the Tazpit Press Service that “the prominent takeover of the Syrian defense industries by Iran is expressed through its takeover of CERS. Today, the Syrian CERS Center operates under full Iranian patronage.”

The report also warned of the possibility of Hezbollah taking possession of chemical substances present as CERS, which are being stored by the Assad regime, and using them to produce chemical weapons for use against Israeli military forces or civilians in a future conflict.
