The IDF has remained silent on the reports, as it most often does in these cases, according to its policy.

The IDF launched two missiles at a target near Damascus on Tuesday night, the country’s state media reported, the latest in a series of strikes in Syria attributed to Israel in recent weeks.

Syria’s SANA news reported that the strike was carried out from the direction of the Golan Heights, targeting an empty building south of Damascus. The Syrian army shot down one of the missiles, and no losses were reported.

The second missile apparently hit its mark.

No other information was available.

The IDF has remained silent on the reports, as it usually does in these cases.

This is the fourth reported Israeli attack in Syria in recent weeks. The last attack occurred last Monday when the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted a number of posts in the central and coastal areas. The attack wounded two soldiers and caused some material damage.

In total, at least eight attacks in the area have been attributed to Israel in the past month.

Iran and Hezbollah have in recent years been working to build up a military presence in Syria, a threat that remains a red line for Israel.

Iran routinely attempts to arm the Lebanon-based Hezbollah with advanced weapons. Israel has exposed and thwarted multiple attempts by Iran to transfer game-changing weapons to Hezbollah, including by air shipments from Iran, through Damascus Airport.

Over the years, the IAF has carried out thousands of attacks to thwart the Iranian entrenchment in the war-torn country and to prevent Hezbollah from accumulating advanced game-changing weapons.
