Dolls with explosives

Iraqi police foiled a major terror plot in Baghdad in which children’s dolls laden with explosives were being used to execute a planned attack.

Iraqi security forces seized 18 dolls stuffed with explosives that were meant to be scattered on the roads leading to Karbala – a holy city for Shia Muslims, located about 100 km. southwest of the capital – during Arbaeen, a Shia Muslim religious observance commemorating the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.

Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that the bombs, planted by Islamic State (ISIS), were discovered in al-Husseiniya, a predominantly Shiite suburb in northeastern Baghdad.

The booby-trapped dolls were dismantled and destroyed.

Arbaeen falls this year on December 3. At least 20 million people make the pilgrimage to Karbala each year, making it one of the largest gatherings in the world.
