Meat in a lab

Prof. Yaakov Nahmias takes cells from a live cow and grows them in a bioreactor, creating the muscle and fat that you need to make a burger.

We’re running out of space to raise all the animals needed to satisfy the world’s growing appetite for meat, and Israeli biomedical engineer and entrepreneur Prof. Yaakov Nahmias is doing something about it – for the sake of his five kids and the future of the planet.

In this video he tells us how his Jerusalem-based startup, Believer Meats (formerly Future Meat Technologies), is Israel’s most advanced developer of cultured meat.

“The technology we developed allows us to do this faster and in a more scalable way than any other company in the market,” he says.

“We make immortal cells that grow forever,” he added.

Founding director of the Alexander Grass Center for Bioengineering at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Nahmias is a serial entrepreneur with a particular mission: “I will never form a company that doesn’t positively affect the world.”
